Fishing is not “red hot” right now, but I have to think it is going to get better. Conditions are shaping up the way they should this time of year. We haven’t had a “cold” front yet, but it is cooling off. Both the air and the water are starting to cool, (thankfully!!). The wind has been out of the north a few days. The current and blue water are in close to the Bar, (The Bar is the outer reef).

Sometimes when the Conditions are Shaping up, the fishing changes immediately and sometimes it takes a few days. I have to think things are going to bust loose soon. I am seeing some Ballyhoo on the reef. Ballyhoo are the bait fish we troll with. I also like to use them as live bait. Last year, we never got any quantity of Ballyhoo in our area. For some reason, all the big schools of Ballyhoo were north of us and it did affect the fishing. We still caught fish, but it was definitely more difficult. Seeing the Ballyhoo on the reef is a good sign. We should start seeing other fish, Sailfish, Tuna and Wahoo coming in on or along the reef to feed on the schools of Ballyhoo.

This can be an exciting time of year to fish. It is one of my favorite times because of the Ballyhoo and the live baiting and also the cooler more comfortable weather. We are coming up on a full moon. this time of year, that should mean there should be some Wahoos around. We didn’t get any today, nor did we have a bite that I could honestly say I thought was a Wahoo. But, I will be surprised if there are not some caught over the next week or so. I guess only time will tell. Fortunately, we have some trips coming up. If they are biting, I don’t want to miss them
