I have a lot of “regular” customers.

That’s one of the great things about this business. After a while, you are not fishing with customers, you are fishing with friends. Today’s group is one of those. They book every year around the 4th of July. It’s great to see them and always fun fishing with them. Usually, we go Mahi fishing offshore and this year was no different.

The Mahi fishing offshore

has been a bit up and down, but there have been some good fish and good days. We headed out at 7 am, my usual time and headed offshore looking for weedlines, birds or debris. Anything that would hold fish.

We got a couple of fish early,

but we really didn’t start to put some fish in the boat until late in the day. About 19 miles and fishing in about 850 ft of water, we found some large patches of Sargasso weed. It was holding fish. We found 2 schools of fish and worked them hard. None of the fish were what you would call big, but they were all legal fish up to about 9 or 10 lbs.

By the end of the day,

we had 17 “keeper” dolphin in the fish box and headed home. We also released about another dozen fish that were too small. They will be next years “crop” we hope.

In the end, it was a great day.

perfect weather, calm seas and good action with dolphin. We have the same group again tomorrow. I’m not sure if they will want to try the same game plan. I hope so because if it’s not broke, you should not try to fix it. No guarantees tomorrow will be as good, but then again it could be better. That’s fishing and only time will tell. I’ll let you know how tomorrow works out.
