Fishing in the Calm waters of the Gulf

Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico

The wind was out of the South so the Gulf of Mexico was the calmer waters today. For that reason, we went to some of the Shoals close to the Northwest channel. The Northwest Channel is the main access to the Gulf of Mexico from Key West. Which is fortunate. Otherwise, we might have to go 20 miles west to Boca Grande Channel to get there and that won’t work for a half-day. We caught some nice Lane Snappers and some Grunts. For anyone unfamiliar with the Lane Snappers they are a relatively small snapper. The biggest one I have ever seen was about 5 lbs. But they are delicious! You would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a Lane snapper and a Yellowtail snapper and Yellowtail is one of the biggest market fish we have here
