Wahoo and Dolphin caught in Key West fishing with Southbound Sportfishing

A “Two’fer” kind of Day!

Fishing Offshore Today!

We have been taking advantage of some great reef fishing lately, but we decided to go offshore looking for something different. Generally speaking, when you head offshore this time of year, you will probably not get as many bites. But you are looking for bigger fish. We caught two Wahoos and two Dolphin. Both are excellent pelagic fish. Wahoos are a cool fish to catch. They are the biggest member of the Mackerel family. They are the “Blue Water” cousin to the Kingfish and Cero Mackerel we have been catching on the reef lately. They get bigger and they swim faster and they are the best eating of all the Mackerels. Many of the Captains and Mates on the dock consider Wahoo to be the best eating fish of all the offshore species. it’s hard to argue with.

This time of year, the wahoos will gather in schools. If you can find where they are, chances are you will get multiple bites. We had a lot of shots today. We probably had 10 Wahoo bites, but Wahoos are hard to catch and it’s not uncommon to pull the hook. I wish we could have brought in more, but I’m glad we got at least 2 nice ones

We also caught a couple of Dolphin, Mahi-Mahi, not the mammal. It’s not really the time of year for Dolphin, but i guess they didn’t know that and we’re just fine with catching them this time of year
