Half Day Today

The weather got very nice, but fishing is still a struggle

A bit "Sporty" again Today

and fishing was not easy

Windy and fairly "Sporty" today!

But we found some protected waters and caught some nice Cero Mackerel on 20lb and 8lb test spin tackle.
Best fish of the day was the big sucker in the middle - 13 1/2 lb Cero mackerel on 8lb spin!
(That's only about 3 lbs off the world record!)

Full Day Today

Weather was beautiful, but fishing was tough

                        We live bait fished for Sailfish offshore
We sharked fish inshore
          and finally we trolled the reef

We got a few, but it was not hot and heavy for sure

Started pretty slow, But finished strong!

Finished the day on the reef and had great action with big Cero Mackerels, Barracudas,
Nice Yellow Tail Snappers and a Bonito on 20lb spin

Still a bit breezy and pretty cold,
(for Key West)

Not a lot of bites, but some quality fish
and released a Sailfish

A Very, Very Strong Cold Front came through last night

Winds were blowing 34kts, (that's about 39mph for you landlubbers).
Much too rough to go off shore. We tried to Shark fish in
 shallow protected water, but while it was calm,
it was very muddy and fishing was very slow.

the morning was excellent and the afternoon was very slow.

Fortunately the weather was stunningly beautiful both trips!

Not a lot of bites, but quality fish for a half day.
 2 Wahoo, a Dolphin and a Skip Jack Tuna!

Same bait, same area and only one dolphin in the afternoon

What a difference a little time can make!

Only had 4 hr trip in the morning and fishing was pretty slow for me.
No bites offshore so we came in to the reef and caught a few Cero Mackerels

6 Hr trip in the afternoon.
I went further west and fishing was much better

More dolphin today and

we found this abandoned Cuban raft.

How would you like to make a 90mile ocean crossing on this??
The red stickers are from the US Coast Guard. Apparently they found the raft on Nov. 19th.
Hopefully the people were all ok

UPDATE: I received an email from the Coast Guard. All the passengers were taken off the raft safely on Nov. 19th

Two Trips Today
and fishing was great both trips!

Afternoon

Plenty of dolphin and a Skip Jack Tuna in the afternoon

And we got a pretty good view of a US Submarine that has been
 operating in the Key West waters for the last week or so

Morning

Non-stop action in the morning!

We saw this Leatherback Turtle on the way in. Leather Backs are uncommon.
 I probably see 2-4 per year. It's hard to tell without anything to reference it's size,
 but this one is about 4-5ft long and probably around 400lbs.

They can get much larger

What a difference a day makes!

Trolled the same area offshore, with the same baits and rigs as yesterday

and got a very different result

26lb "cow" dolphin on 30lb tackle

Nice "schoolie" dolphin

Over 20 dolphin and a small Wahoo!

This would be considered a good day in May or June when dolphin are supposed to be here
Great day for November!

Much Better Everything Today!

The weather was perfect and the fishing was excellent!

We started off on the Reef catching live bait with the intent of looking for a Sailfish. Then we got the word that there was a Tuna "bite" offshore. I picked up and ran South as my mate Ben changed rigs.

It was worth the run!
