Taking a few days off
to go up to my hunting camp and fill up the feeders. I only have a small window to go up, It’s a busy time of year, but that’s good. I’m not complaining. but I haven’t been up for about 6 weeks and I know all the barrels are going to be empty.
WEDNESDAY
We got to the camp Wednesday evening. I had a morning trip Wednesday morning and left right after we got in. It was too late to go out and hunt so we just took a ride on the buggy. It’ has been very dry in that area, but it should start to rain soon.
THURSDAY
I had a lot of work to get done this trip, so we didn’t hunt in the morning. Honestly, it felt good to sleep in, (6 am is sleeping in for fishermen). We went to town and got a load of corn and came back to camp.
We filled 2 feeders in the afternoon We planned on sitting in the other two so I figured we would fill the other two tonight after hunting them first.
Unfortunately a bear
decided he wanted the contents of one of the feeders. Most of my feeders are hanging from trees and are too high for a bear to get to. This one is a ground feeder. I thought I had it pretty “bear proof”. I was wrong. It was tipped over, the leg, which is 1/8 in steel angle iron, was bent. The barrel was pulled out of the feeder frame and the box with the motor for flinging the corn was ripped off. The steel lid was bent up and there was a small hole ripped in the side of the barrel.
We fixed the feeder
and strung steel cable to nearby trees. I figure it’s about 50/50 that it will keep them from tearing it up again. We will see
