Reef fishing in Key West

Good Reef Fishing Today

The Reef fishing was Good today

We only anchored long enough to catch some live bait. Then we slow trolled up and down the reef looking for Yellowtail snapper, Mutton Snapper, Cero mackerel, and anything else that wanted to bite. The action was pretty steady. Slow trolling for Yellowtailsnapper with jigs and strip baits worked very well. Probably because the water color was just right, Not too clear and not too cloudy. The yellowtails could see the jig falling, but couldn’t tell what it was until it was too late. We caught our limit this way.

We released 3 Barracudas

Which are always fun on light tackle. We also released a small Mutton Snapper. it was under the 18-inch minimum size. We were hoping for a bigger one and may have had it on. We hooked a good fish on the deep line,  but it “rocked up” on us and we never got it out. Probably a nice Mutton or a Grouper. We did manage to catch 4 good-sized Cero Mackerel. I love the Cero’s, they are fun to catch and delicious eating. A great fish all around
