Big Cero Mackerel caught on the reef off Key West Florida

Reef fishing

Just a half day Reef fishing trip today

Today we went reef fishing for Yellow Tail Snapper and got a couple of nice Cero Mackerel too. The Snappers started out biting very well, but once again the “Tax Man” Showed up, (sharks). Normally, that tends to make the bite slowed down, and today was no different. Granted the reef fish always have the urge to feed, but if your chances of getting eaten are as good as your chance to eat, you might be a little cautious too! If you wind fast you can still get a few past the sharks. It takes a little practice and you have to concentrate. When reef fishing, you cannot hesitate after a bite of the shark will get your fish and yellowtail snapper is too tasty to feed to sharks. By the end of the trip, we had plenty for a couple of delicious fish dinners.

The Weather was fantastic,

the water was beautiful, but the best thing about today was meeting the 4 youngsters we had on board. They were all teenagers and all 4 were very polite and well mannered. All 4 paid attention to instructions and really figured out how to “float” for yellowtail snapper in short order. It was really enjoyable having them on board.

I don’t have any children

of my own, so my experience with children is limited to those on the boat and a band of wonderful “troublemakers” my wife and I babysit for on Saturday nights. So when I get to meet some really nice kids for the first time, I’m impressed.  In this business, I’m usually the one getting a review from my customers, but  Today I’m giving them my review. My compliments to their parents, you are doing a great job raising some quality young people. It was a pleasure to be around your family.
